Basic Rules:
- First line is always the form title
- Optional intro text: lines starting with
>right below the title appear under the title in Google Forms - Add * before questions to make them required
- Each question must end with a type in [brackets]
- Use indentation with "-" for options and sub-items
Question Types:
- [text] - Single line text input
- [paragraph] - Multi-line text area
- [multiple_choice] - Single select radio buttons
- [checkbox] - Multiple select checkboxes
- [dropdown] - Dropdown select menu
- [date] - Date picker
- [time] - Time picker
- [multiple_choice_grid] - Multiple choice grid
- [checkbox_grid] - Checkbox grid
- [scale] - Linear scale (1-5, 1-10)
- [rating:star] - Star rating (1-5)
- [rating:heart] - Heart rating (1-5)
- [rating:thumb_up] - Thumbs-up (1-5)
- [section] - New section / page break
- [text_block] - Descriptive text (no answer)
- [image] - Image from a publicly accessible URL, e.g.
[image] url="https://..." - [video] - YouTube video,
[video] url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=..." - > help text - A line starting with
>right after a question or layout item with a valid [type] becomes its help text (right below the title it becomes the form's intro text) - Closing note: end the form with a
[text_block], e.g.Almost done! [text_block]- it appears just above the Submit button. The message shown after submitting can only be changed in Google Forms (Settings → Presentation → Confirmation message). - shuffle=true - Randomize choice options
- Quiz:
points=2+ mark answer with- Option [correct] - Skip questions based on an answer: a section is a new page of the form, started by a line like
Final part [section]. End an answer option with[go:section name], e.g.- No [go:Final part]. People who pick it jump to that section when they click Next.- The name is everything before
[section](capital letters don't matter). Put[go:...]at the very end of the line; in a quiz it can sit next to[correct]in either order, e.g.- Yes [correct] [go:Part 2]. - Put what you want to skip in its own section - questions on the same page as the jump question are always shown. Put the jump question last in its section.
- Also:
[go:submit]skips to the end,[go:next]continues,[go:restart]starts over. - Works only in [multiple_choice] and [dropdown] (in a checkbox people can tick several answers). It does not work together with
- [other]or on the last page of the form. A form without any[section]is one single page.
- The name is everything before
- Skipping, not two paths: when a section ends, the form continues with the section written below it; a jump only changes where people go from the question that has it. "No → skip section B" works. "Yes → B1, No → B2" does not: people who see B1 then also see B2. To fix it, create the form, then in Google Forms go to the bottom of section B1 and set "After section" to the section that follows B2.
The image URL must be publicly reachable (Google fetches it when building the form). File upload and answer validation are not supported by the Google Forms API.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I create Google Forms quickly?
Simply paste your questionnaire text into our AI-powered generator. Our system automatically creates a Google Form with proper question types, validation, and formatting in seconds. No manual setup or complicated form building required - just type your questions and click generate.
What text format can I convert to Google Forms?
Not literally any block of text. Our tool expects a lightweight structure: a title on the first line, each question ending with a type in [brackets] (such as [text] or [multiple_choice]), and answer choices as lines starting with a hyphen. If your text is close but not exact, Check & Preview uses Google's Gemini AI to detect issues, fix common formatting problems, and show you exactly what changed before you create the form. The system supports all Google Forms question types including text, multiple choice, checkboxes, scales, grids, and date pickers.
Is this better than other form builders?
Unlike traditional drag-and-drop form builders, our AI-powered tool understands your intent and creates forms instantly from plain text, saving hours of manual work. You get professional Google Forms without learning complex interfaces or spending time on repetitive tasks.
How does the AI form validation work?
Our AI validation system powered by Google's Gemini AI analyzes your form structure, checks for common errors, suggests improvements, and ensures proper formatting. It catches missing question types, validates syntax, and recommends best practices for better form design.
Is it free to create forms without coding?
Yes. The free plan supports up to 10 items per form; questions, sections, text blocks, images and videos each count as one item. Pro has no per-form item limit.
Can I create a Google Form from ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. SurveysAI works as a connector in Claude and as an app in ChatGPT. You describe the survey in the chat, the assistant drafts the questions, and SurveysAI creates the form in your own Google account after you confirm. Setup takes a few minutes; see the Claude guide and the ChatGPT guide, or compare all the ways to make a Google Form with AI.
Can I access my existing Google Forms?
SurveysAI is built to create new forms for you, not to browse or manage your existing forms. In normal use, it does not read your existing form content and it does not read form responses. Google exposes this through a Google Forms scope that is broader than a strict create-only permission, so our behavior matters more here than the short version of the consent text.
What Google permissions does SurveysAI need?
SurveysAI requests standard Google sign-in scopes plus the Google Forms scope https://www.googleapis.com/auth/forms.body. We use that access to create forms for you. We do not request the responses-reading scope, we do not read form responses, and we do not use Google Calendar, Contacts, or other Google services. You can revoke access at any time in your Google Account settings.
How does the form validation workflow work?
When you click "Check & Preview", our system first checks your form text instantly. If the format is imperfect, Google's Gemini AI automatically fixes it — adding a missing title, inferring question types, and more — and shows you exactly what was changed, along with a preview of your form, before you create it. See more details in the Form Formatting Guide above.
