How to Create a Google Form with AI: 4 Ways Compared
Short answer
There are four practical ways to make a Google Form with AI:
- Gemini in Google Forms, if your Google plan includes it.
- ChatGPT or Claude with a connector such as SurveysAI, which creates the form from the chat.
- A text-to-form generator, when you already have the questions written.
- Apps Script code written by ChatGPT or Claude, which works for everyone but means running code.
ChatGPT and Claude cannot create a Google Form on their own; options 2 and 4 are how they get there.
The four ways at a glance
| Way | Where you start | What you need | Cost | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini in Google Forms | Google Forms | An eligible Google Workspace plan or Google AI Pro / Ultra | Included in those paid plans | Low |
| ChatGPT or Claude + SurveysAI connector | The chat | Claude (directory connectors are on all plans, per Anthropic), or a paid ChatGPT plan with custom apps (availability varies by account); a Google account | Free up to 10 items per form | Low |
| Paste text into SurveysAI | Questions you already have | A browser and a Google account | Free up to 10 items per form | Low |
| Apps Script written by AI | ChatGPT or Claude, then Apps Script | Any Google account and willingness to run code | Free | Medium to high |

1. Gemini in Google Forms
Google Forms has a built-in Gemini feature called Help me create. You describe the form you want, and Gemini drafts the questions inside Google Forms. You can also point it to files in your Google Drive, such as a document or a presentation. Since July 2026 it can also generate quizzes with correct answers.
Who has it: according to Google's April 2026 announcement, it is available on Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, some Education editions and the consumer Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. Free personal Google accounts are not on that list.
Good for: people who already pay for one of those plans and want to stay inside Google Forms. Keep in mind: you get a draft to edit, and you still need to check every question.
2. ChatGPT or Claude with a connector
On their own, ChatGPT and Claude only write text. A connector (Claude's term; ChatGPT calls it an app) lets the assistant use another service on your behalf. SurveysAI is a connector built for this job: the assistant drafts the questions, SurveysAI checks them and creates a real Google Form in your own Google account.
- Connect SurveysAI. Add SurveysAI in Claude's connector directory or as a custom app in ChatGPT (setup for Claude and ChatGPT).
- Describe the survey. Tell the assistant what the form is for, who answers it and roughly how many questions you want.
- Review the draft. The assistant drafts the questions and SurveysAI checks the format. Ask for changes until it is right.
- Approve the form. Approve the creation step. The first time, sign in with Google and allow SurveysAI to create forms.
- Open the link. You get a link to a real Google Form in your own Google account. Test it once before you share it.
Who can use it: in Claude, any plan including Free, from Claude's connector directory, according to Anthropic's help center. In ChatGPT, a plan that allows custom apps (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Education).
Good for: people who already plan their survey in a chat and want the finished form without copying anything. Keep in mind: the free SurveysAI plan allows up to 10 items per form, SurveysAI only creates new forms (it does not edit existing ones), and file upload questions are not available.
3. Paste your text into a text-to-form generator
If your questions already exist in a Word file, a Google Doc or an earlier chat, you don't need an assistant at all. Paste them into the editor on the SurveysAI homepage, mark each question's type in brackets and click Check & Preview. If the format is off, SurveysAI suggests a fixed version with AI and shows you what changed. Then sign in with Google and generate the form.
There is a full walkthrough with a before-and-after example in Turn a list of questions into a Google Form.
4. Ask ChatGPT or Claude for Apps Script code
Most “ChatGPT to Google Forms” tutorials use this method. You ask the assistant to write a Google Apps Script that builds your form, open a new project at script.google.com, paste the code, run it and approve the permissions your script asks for. The form appears in your Google Drive.
Good for: people comfortable with code who want full control, for free. Keep in mind: when the script fails you go back and forth with the assistant to fix it, and you are running code you may not fully understand in your own Google account.
Which one should you choose?
- You pay for Google Workspace or Google AI Pro: try Gemini's Help me create first.
- You are already planning the survey in ChatGPT or Claude: connect SurveysAI (Claude, ChatGPT) and let the assistant create the form.
- The questions are already written: paste them into the SurveysAI editor.
- You need something none of these support, and you can code: use Apps Script.
- You are making a test for students: see Make a Google Forms quiz with AI.
What AI will not do for you
Every option above produces questions quickly. None of them knows whether the questions measure what you need. Before you share the form, check that:
- each question asks about one thing only (not “How fast and friendly was the service?”);
- the wording is neutral and does not suggest the expected answer;
- answer options don't overlap and cover every case, with “Other” or “Prefer not to say” where people need them;
- rating scales have balanced labels at both ends;
- the form is as short as it can be;
- you have submitted one test response yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Can AI create a Google Form for free?
Yes. According to Anthropic's help center, connectors from Claude's directory, SurveysAI included, are available on every Claude plan, including Free, and the SurveysAI website turns pasted text into a form for free. On the free SurveysAI plan, each form can have up to 10 items (questions, sections, text blocks, images and videos all count). The Pro plan has no limit. Apps Script is free but means running code. Gemini in Google Forms needs an eligible paid Google plan.
Is Gemini in Google Forms available on a free Google account?
According to Google's announcement from April 2026, “Help me create” in Google Forms is available on Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, some Education editions and the consumer Google AI Pro and Ultra plans, not on free personal accounts.
Can ChatGPT or Claude create the form directly?
Not on their own. Both can write the questions, but creating the form needs a connector that can use Google's Forms API, such as SurveysAI. Without one, you copy the questions by hand or run Apps Script code.
Is it safe to give an AI tool access to my Google account?
Check which permissions a tool asks for. SurveysAI asks for basic sign-in and the Google Forms permission it needs to create forms, not for permission to read responses. You can remove its access at any time in your Google Account.
Do I still need to check the questions?
Yes. AI drafts quickly, but it can write leading or double-barrelled questions and miss answer options. Read every question and submit one test response before you share the form.
